What in the world does that mean? Good question! To me it represents a journey, how I got here, from beer. When this journey first began I had grand plans of blogging my way through it, here we are a year later and I am just now writing my first post. That’s ok… I have more experience and topics to share.
But first, here’s my disclaimer. I am not a journalist or by any means a professional writer. My hope is to share experiences, and lessons learned along the way, as well as a plethora of other topics. Maybe gain a small following and help our business to grow. I am challenging myself to post something everyday for the next 30 days. I hope you’re prepared.
You know the old saying “everything happens for a reason”. Well, I firmly believe that to be true. All of the events, good and bad, have brought me to where I am today. I’m not going to bore you with all of the gory details, I can save that for later. But just over a year ago I had a corporate job that I loved, a beautiful home, and, some great friends in a lovely community. Today, I am gram-nanny to my beautiful granddaughter, we are on the finishing stages of getting our business up and running, and live more than 200 miles away from where I once called home, with wonderful new friends, great, and, not so great experiences under our belts. All of this for beer, that’s right, beer.
If you have been following our Facebook page, than you already know we are inches away from opening “Whipsaw Brewing” in Ellensburg WA. We are a small 3 barrel brewery with big dreams. My name is Debbie Tierney, wife of the brewer, my husband is Charlie. He has worked as a Northwest logger for more than 30 years. He has worked all over the state, from Washougal to Forks. Forks has been his work home for the past 3 years and if you were wondering, there are no sparkly vampires in Forks, at least none that he has seen.
SO HOW DOES ONE GO FROM LOGGING TO BREWING BEER?
Charlie received a Mr. Beer kit for Christmas one year, and that is where his obsession with brewing began. The progression from the Mr. Beer kit to where he is today did not happen overnight. Charlie has been a backyard brewer for more than 20 years, sharing his creations with friends and family. His home brew systems have grown and evolved from that little Mr. Beer kit to what he has today. It has been challenging and fun experience creating and developing some great, and not so great recipes. After several years of dreaming of owning his own brewery, we are starting to see that dream come true.
